Area14 Robotics began as a small club in 2019, meeting in a member's garage to keep students engaged during the COVID-19 pandemic. As interest grew, the club expanded and relocated to the Somerset County 4-H building to accommodate a larger and more diverse group of members. While guided by dedicated adult mentors who provide expert instruction, Area14 Robotics also prides in fostering a strong peer-to-peer mentoring culture, where senior members actively mentor younger students. The club welcomes participants from grades 5-13, ensuring a collaborative learning environment where members at all levels can grow and excel in robotics.
What We Teach
At Area14 Robotics, we provide a structured robotics curriculum that caters to all skill levels:
Beginner: Students start with foundational robotics concepts, learning basic programming (Scratch/Python), mechanical design, and sensor integration using platforms like LEGO Mindstorms and Makeblock mBot.
Intermediate: Members advance to more complex programming, engineering principles, and AI-driven robotics. They gain hands-on experience with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and computer vision applications.
Advanced: Experienced students tackle real-world robotics challenges, competing in high-level competitions, developing autonomous systems, and optimizing robotic performance through mechanical and software innovations.
Our Achievements
Our students have earned recognition in prestigious robotics competitions, including:
FIRST LEGO League (FLL) – Innovation and teamwork in STEM-based challenges.
RoboCup Junior Rescue Maze & Line – Autonomous robot navigation in dynamic environments.
FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) – Engineering and strategic problem-solving in large-scale robotics challenges.
ZeroRobotics – Programming autonomous satellites in microgravity.
HPE Code Wars – Competitive coding against top programmers worldwide.
At Area14 Robotics, we inspire the next generation of engineers, coders, and innovators by combining hands-on learning, mentorship, and competitive excellence. Whether you're new to robotics or looking to push the limits of technology, our community is the perfect place to explore, learn, and excel!
